Steps to the Universe | Acrylic on Canvas | 11x14 | Available
Recently, I had an interested party in buying my art. They deliberate for a while and attempted to intellectualize my art. That is, the went into a deep dive into the meaning of the entire piece including composition, color, and other artistic characteristics. While commendable, I feel this intellectualization happens more in the visual fine arts compared to other art forms. In my opinion, it’s not really necessary to analyze a piece of art to determine if you enjoy it. Do you think about the rhythmic patterns of you favorite songs when you’re dancing to them? Do you consider the dye choice and stitching patterns of your favorite pieces of clothes before you buy them? There are so many art forms we interact with daily, including fine art, that we don’t fully consider and analyze, just appreciate. And that is perfectly ok. Art is meant to be enjoyed. Analyzing is fun as well, but really not necessary.
So next time you’re considering if you like a piece or not, try to enjoy it first before analyzing. Because truly you should feel it before anything else.
Now I ask, what art would you interact with if you thought about how it made you feel?

Happenings:
Next week, Thursday October 13 - Sunday October16, I will be presenting some new pieces at the Superfine Art Fair (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/superfine-art-fair-los-angeles-2022-tickets-404913736887). It'll be a party.
