EXPRESSING AND UNDERSTANDING

In my mother's garden, we play, we grow, we learn, we heal. It is a place were negroes, nature, and nurture convene in the name of communal healing. It can be found many places, in small plots, but it's roots are always stretching: expanding, so more of our people can come play in the garden.

Through gestural acrylic and oil lines, this painting creates a sense of healing through movement and welcoming warm colors reminiscent of pan-African movements known to us. The black gessoed canvas reminds us black is the base, the foundation from whence we start. It is assumed rather than questioned.

Part of the negroes nature nurture series.
